Saudi Arabia Launches Digital Land Border Service for GCC Nationals and Visitors
On 26 October 2026, Saudi Arabia has launched a new digital border entry service called ‘Absher Travel for Visitors’.
The service allows GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) nationals and other international visitors entering Saudi Arabia through land borders to complete certain entry formalities online before reaching the border.
This decision will reduce paperwork and waiting time at border crossings.
Will the New Border Entry Service Be Mandatory from April 2027?
For the first 6 months, from October 2026 to April 2027, travellers can choose whether to use the service or not.
The service is expected to become compulsory From April 2027 for visitors entering Saudi Arabia through land borders.
Until then, travellers can use the existing entry process or try the new digital registration system.
Who Can Use the New Digital Border Entry Service?
The new facility is available at all land border crossings across Saudi Arabia.
The following travellers can use the service:
- GCC nationals: Citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
- International visitors: Foreign travellers entering Saudi Arabia through land borders.
- Visitors travelling by vehicle: Travellers who need to submit vehicle details and arrange the required insurance.
Note: The service does not cover travellers entering Saudi Arabia by air or sea.
What Information Can Travellers Submit Through the Absher App?
Visitors can access the new service through the Absher mobile application before reaching the border.
The service allows travellers to:
- Enter their nationality and travel document details.
- Provide their mobile number and personal information.
- Select the land border crossing they plan to use.
- Enter their expected arrival date.
- Submit vehicle information and complete insurance formalities.
After submitting these details, travellers can proceed to the selected border crossing for the remaining immigration checks.
Do Travellers Still Need a Saudi Visa or eVisa?
The launch of ‘Absher Travel for Visitors’ does not change Saudi Arabia’s existing visa rules. GCC citizens can continue entering the country under the applicable visa-free arrangements.
Other international visitors must still obtain a Saudi eVisa or visa if required for their nationality and travel purpose.
The new digital service only helps with border entry procedures and does not replace a visa.
